Telling an 83-year-old
Story in the Digital Age
Known as one of the leading Architecture, Urban Planning, and Engineering firms in the world, SOM has an extensive portfolio that includes some of the most important architectural and planning projects of our time.
To stay relevant and win new work, the firm needed to reimagine the way they shared their stories with the world and implement cloud-based solutions to help manage their 83-years’ worth of project material.
I like to refer to this time in SOM’s history as “the shift” — the shift away from the “mad men” era of Architecture and into to the fast-paced digital era.
Below are a few of the projects I worked on while at SOM during “the shift”.
Process Oriented Approach
I collaborated closely with architects, planners, designers, and the marketing team on every project to craft the central idea & design, understand the client, establish content milestones, and assign responsibilities.
Generating
New
Business
Through the use of hand selected project stories and high-impact visual design, potential clients were able to understand why SOM was the right firm for their project.
Crafting Project
Stories
Bringing to life SOM’s extensive portfolio of work through digital and printed pieces communicating the firm’s ethos, project experience, and innovative design process.
Elevating Design
Leaders
To help advance the careers of SOM’s designers, I worked with them one-on-one to craft their portfolio of work — a firm is only as great as the people that work there.
Designing Presentations
To support design leaders during all-hands events, project interviews, and leadership meetings, I collaborated with them to design graphically engaging presentations.
Advancing
Women in Design
As Communications Chair for SOM’s Women’s Initiative, I communicated activities, shared progress, and helped design/present yearly updates to the firm’s partners.
Sharing Architecture
with Students
Leading SOM’s yearly participation in the Sandcastle Competition, the team and I engaged with students through experiential learning and introduced them to the potential of architecture as a career.
Our team won the “Best in Show” and “Best Participation” awards in 2019.
